Hong Kong Dim Sum at 5:30am


Puerh+shoumei. A cooked and a White or B&W.
A very traditonal Cantonese hangout in Hong Kong.

Toki...You made me crave for a good yum cha! Here in LA yum cha is not as good as in Hkg, for sure.

Monterey Park and Arcadia...yeah, they have some good ones, but I miss yum cha in Hong Kong.

I know yum cha literally means "drink tea", but it's interchangeable with "dim sum" in Cantonese, right?

Dim sum is the actual food, yum cha is the act of going ot eat dim sum.

They're not interchangable that way.

In Cantonese you rarely, if ever, say "let's eat dim sum".

Most of the time it's "let's go yum cha"

Monterey park, Arcadia, or Rowland heights have a FEW good dim sum places. Out of the average 3 times going to dim sum anually, I hit a jack pot in Rowland heights or Hacienda heights last weekend, some place on the second floor in the Diamond Plaza off Fullerton and 60.

I have not been to HK for 20+ yrs, I can only remember the fried squid tanticles. YUMMY!

The best Dim Sum I ever had, surprisingly is in Kulalumpur, Malaysia. Celestial court inside Sheraton, down town area. VERY good siu mai. Other dim sum places in Malaysia, Bankok are sooooo bad, it's worse than mexican food in like Montana!
